Farewell to 2016.
As we approach the end of another year, we can’t help but pause and reflect on the blessings of 2016.
We began the year excited about our new partnership with House of Raeford. In January, we completed our “Chicken Room” and began to receive several cases of chicken each week, that we repackage and are able to give our clients. As the year progressed, they increased their donations, and we are now at 20 cases a week. We’ve received over 20,000 lbs of donated chicken from House of Raeford this year! Blessings.
In February, we were blessed with 7,686 lbs of food collected by the annual Scouting for Food food drive. In the spring, we continued with our annual Volunteer Celebration, honoring our volunteers with a “Decades of Dedication” theme. May brought our 2nd annual Midlands Gives online charity event. Despite a major technical issue with the platform, we still were able to raise $7,500 to stock our Mobile Food Pantry. At the end of May, we were blessed with 19,616 lbs of food collected through the Stamp Out Hunger Postal Food Drive. In June, our mezzanine was completed in the food pantry, expanding our space and allowing for more storage.
In the fall, we hosted our very first Farm to Table dinner at Clinton Sease Farm, and it was very successful. Our friend Soleil worked on the Hike for Hunger project for LICS, and raised funds for our food pantry. In October, the Food for Friends food drive brought in 7,660 lbs of much-needed food. Newspring Church kicked off our Thanksgiving basket season by collecting 4,408 lbs of Holiday food, followed by many churches and organizations collecting and donating Holiday Food Baskets. In December, we hosted our first Trunk Show at the Old Mill, and were extremely successful in sales, with all proceeds coming back to LICS. We filled 725 children’s Christmas wishes with gifts and provided hope to many families.
Our mobile food pantry rolled out every month in 2016, and we are seeing an average of 200 families in our rural communities with this ministry.
The year was a whirlwind for sure, but we are continually blessed to do His work and continue to “Glorify God by serving our neighbors in crisis”. We thank you for being a part of this ministry- for helping us grow and prosper. For volunteering. For donating. For shopping with us. For praying for us.
If you wish to make a monetary donation by the end of the year, please make sure you do it online here or that it is postmarked by December 31st to be eligible for the tax benefit for 2016.
